We’re looking for a patient-focused, confident Healthcare Support Worker with experience using clinical IT systems, good time management skills and previous work in a General Practice or hospital setting, to join our friendly team. Working in our large, dynamic general practice you’ll liaise closely with our phlebotomist, nurses, GPs and Practice paramedic. Our clinical team sits within the broader, 50-strong Practice team which also includes our Reception team and other administrators.

• Provide an efficient, caring and courteous phlebotomy service to patients - c ollecting blood samples by venepuncture, as required by members of the Practice clinical team or by healthcare colleagues in other settings
• Urine sample testing
• Collect and record a range of patient data including but not limited to: blood pressure readings, pulse, temperature, height and weight
• Opportunity to undertake further tasks if trained to do so or after training, including diabetic foot checks, RAT, INR / INR coagulation machine
• Ensuring all policies and protocols for handling, labelling, and documenting the collection of specimens are adhered to, in a timely way.
• Accurate recording of consultation in patient notes
• Preparation of clinical equipment and stocking of consultation rooms.

• Previous Healthcare Support Worker experience in a GP Practice (preferred) or hospital setting
• Existing right to work in the UK for the duration of the hours advertised in the post
• Completion of a recognised phlebotomy training programme
• IT literate, with sound knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant clinical IT systems - ideally including Vision, ICE and Docman
• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage a busy patient list each day as allocated by the Practice Management team
• Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate well with patients of all ages and backgrounds, putting each individual patient at ease
• Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail, with the ability to accurately record interactions appropriately in the correct patient notes.
• Able to work calmly under pressure, and handle challenging interactions in a compassionate and professional manner.
• Able to handle sensitive patient information in a confidential way, in line with NHS requirements
• Able to work within your competency level, escalating issues to Practice nurses or the duty doctor as appropriate.
• Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, which enable you to develop effective working relationships with the rest of the Practice team.
• Able to work in line with Practice health & safety procedures, particularly those relevant to phlebotomy including infection control, needle stick injury protocols etc.
