Senior IT Support Engineer – Northampton – Windows/Linux
Location:
East Midlands

Salary: £33,000 - £38,000 per annum + Pension, Training Budget
Role SummarySenior IT Support, 3rd Line, Infrastructure Engineer handling MS Windows, Server, Exchange, AD, Cisco, SCCM, VMware, Networking, Switches/Routers/Firewalls.
Responsibilities- Provide in depth technical support using ITSM processes to business users, IT colleagues, and partners.
- Proactively manage and monitor the core IT infrastructure, identifying and addressing faults before impacting service availability.
- Mentor and act as a senior escalation point for 1st and 2nd level support.
- Transition new services into early life support, ensuring handover plans and documentation are up to date.
- Improve processes and add efficiency to deliver excellent customer experience.
- Collaborate with the IT team on planning and implementation of changes and major projects.
- Contribute to knowledge tools and communities, sharing learnings for reuse.
- Provide out of hours support via an on‑call rota.
- Windows Client and Server OS setup, configuration, deployment and management.
- Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy.
- On‑premise Exchange and/or Office
365 configuration. - Microsoft core platform/back‑office server technologies (Skype, Lync, SQL, SCOM, SCCM).
- VMware ESXi.
- Enterprise storage solutions – SAN, NAS, replication.
- Data backup and retention services.
- Core networking – LAN, DC, WIFI, switching, routing, firewalls.
- Mobile device deployment, support and management.
- Scripting, Power Shell, Chef.
- Experience in a comparable enterprise environment.
- Confident, self‑motivated, and passionate about customer experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Methodical, structured approach to problem solving.
- Superior analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritise and execute tasks under high pressure and meet deadlines.
- Experience with ITIL framework for service design, transition and operation.
£33,000 – £38,000 per annum, bonus, pension, gym membership, free parking, onsite canteen.
