Job Description & How to Apply Below
Package:
Competitive (DOE) + Company Van + Overtime (as required) + Tools Support
Location:
Northampton (yard-based with local field work)
Industry: Construction Plant / Heavy Equipment / Used Plant
The Business
A busy, growing plant machinery business based in Northampton is looking to add an additional Service Engineer due to increased workload. The business works across a mixed range of new and used plant machinery and needs someone practical, hands-on and comfortable with variety.
The Role
This is a hands-on role supporting both the workshop and on-site work. The current split is roughly 70% workshop / 30% field, but the field element is expected to grow over time as service demand increases.
You’ll be involved in machine prep, PDI, servicing, repairs and breakdown support across a varied fleet. This would suit someone who can get stuck in, work on their own initiative and isn’t fazed by a busy environment with mixed equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
PDI and preparation of new and used plant machinery
Routine servicing and maintenance
Fault-finding and repairs (workshop and on-site)
Breakdown support and customer call-outs as required
Mechanical, hydraulic and basic electrical diagnostics
Working on attachments and associated equipment (e.g. buckets/breakers)
Accurate job sheets/service paperwork and clear communication with the workshop team About You
Proven experience working on heavy plant / construction machinery
Strong mechanical and hydraulic servicing/fault-finding skills
Basic electrical diagnostics capability (not a heavily electrical role)
Self-sufficient, practical and happy to muck in where needed
Comfortable working in both the workshop and out on site
Full UK driving licence
NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) ideal (or time-served with strong plant experience)
Background from plant hire/mixed fleet/independent service environments is highly relevant
What’s on Offer
A varied role with a proper mix of workshop and field work
Company van provided
Overtime available when required (workload dependent)
Tools support is flexible depending on your setup
A stable, long-term opportunity within a busy business with a solid team environment
Salary/package agreed based on experience
How to Apply
If you’re a plant engineer/fitter who enjoys variety and a hands-on environment, we’d like to hear from you.
