Position: Caretaker / Janitor

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Caretaker to join our Northampton Schools Account at Abbeyfield School, Mere Way, Northampton NN4 8BU
– this role will be based on site.

Salary: £13.08 per hour.

Hours: 25 hours per week – 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure smooth running of the school premises.
  • Carry out day‑to‑day DIY/maintenance and minor repairs (e.g., furniture fixtures, wall repairs).
  • Check that heating, lighting and alarm systems are working properly.
  • Daily responsibility to verify all doors and windows are locked when the building is not in use.
  • Guard against vandalism by inspecting premises.
  • Arrange chairs and tables for meetings or assemblies and clear away thereafter.
  • Pick litter and perform general clearing of external areas.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge and previous experience in practical DIY skills for minor repairs.
  • Good team player.
  • Flexible with shift work.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with on‑site client and employees.
  • Experience supporting local and business zero‑carbon programmes in a strategic and lean manner (where appropriate).
  • Responsibility for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
