General Porter

Porters at Northampton General Hospital are the main support for the site in the transfer of patients and equipment. In this role you will support the safe and effective transfer of patients around our 25+ wards and 60+ clinics.

These duties may cover the full 24/7 shift rota or involve working within our radiology transfer team.

• Provide safe transportation of patients using wheelchairs, stretchers and beds.
• Move equipment and furniture, and collect and deliver post.
• Manage medical gas and assist with related duties.
• Clean and maintain portering equipment.
• Safely transport deceased from wards.
• Assist with any additional duties required to meet service needs.

The successful candidate will cover shifts across the full 24‑hour period, including weekends and bank holidays, initially on a structured rota pattern that may be adjusted to meet service needs.

• Physically fit and able to lift and move patients and equipment.
• Good self‑organisational skills, teamwork, strong communication and confidence.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
