General Practice Alliance represents 26 member GP practices across Northamptonshire and delivers a broad range of services supporting primary care and local communities.
Following an independent organisational review, GPA is entering an exciting new phase focused on strengthening leadership, improving organisational effectiveness and building long-term sustainability.
We are seeking an exceptional leader to become ournext Chief Executive Officer - someone who brings people with them, inspires confidence and enjoys turning ideas into action.
A different kind of CEO role
GPA is a small, agile organisation, and this is not atraditional CEO role. We are looking for a leader who combines strategicthinking with practical delivery - someone who can set direction, build relationships, identify and secure new opportunities, and get involved in making things happen.
You'll be comfortable working with leaders, supporting teams, improving services, developing opportunities and solving challenges.
You'll bring energy, clarity and momentum, helping GPA continue to evolve and deliver for the practices and communities we serve.
About the Role
Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will:
- provide visible, accountable leadership across GPA
- lead the delivery of GPAs next phase of development and improvement
- strengthen financial sustainability and identify opportunities for growth
- build a high-performing leadership team and support a positive organisational culture
- improve performance, governance and service delivery
- build strong relationships with member practices, commissioners and system partners
- champion innovation and technology to improve how GPA works
What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced transformational leader who can lead organisations through change, improvement and growth. You'll bring:
- Significant leadership experience in complex organisations, with a track record of successfully leading change and improvement, with an understanding of the NHS and wider healthcare environment
- Strong financial and commercial judgement
- The ability to turn strategy into clear priorities and deliver results
- Experience building trusted partnerships across the NHS and wider healthcare system
- A practical approach to using technology and innovation to improve how we work
- The ability to listen, value different perspectives and adapt, while having the confidence and resilience to challenge and make difficult decisions
Most importantly, you'll be a visible, approachable and pragmatic leader who builds trust, brings people with you and gets things done.

Job responsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & Organisational Direction
- Lead the development and implementation of GPAs strategic plan, ensuring clear priorities and alignment across the organisation.
- Drive innovation in service delivery, workforce models and digital transformation.
- Provide strategic oversight while contributing directly to organisational priorities where appropriate.
- Ensure decisions are informed by organisational need, system context and long-term sustainability.
- Foster a positive, inclusive culture that supports staff development, wellbeing and high performance.
- Provide visible leadership to senior managers, setting clear expectations, objectives and support.
- Strengthen collaborative working across teams, neighbourhoods and member practices.
- Promote leadership behaviours that encourage engagement, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Support development of flexible workforce and operating models.
- Build strong relationships with member practices, NHS partners and stakeholders.
- Represent GPA at system-level forums and ensure alignment with Integrated Care System priorities.
- Support effective neighbourhood-level engagement through the Neighbourhood Director model.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Companies Act duties, NHS governance and statutory obligations.
- Oversee risk management, safeguarding and information governance.
- Strengthen governance arrangements to support clear accountability and timely decision-making.
- Maintain financial sustainability and oversee budget planning, ensuring expenditure decisions align with organisational priorities and affordability.
- Ensure delivery of contractual obligations and performance targets.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity across the organisation.
