Position: On-Floor Technical Assistant — Food Safety & Quality

Technical Assistant

Location - Northampton

Pay - £14.00 - £15.00 per hour

Hours - 40-45 hours per week + overtime available

A well‑established food manufacturing business is looking for a hands‑on Technical Assistant to join its growing technical team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with food manufacturing or quality experience who enjoys being on the factory floor and working closely with production teams to maintain high food safety and quality standards.

This is not a desk‑based role – the successful candidate will play a key part in day‑to‑day factory operations, ensuring compliance, hygiene, GMP, and product quality standards are consistently achieved.

Key responsibilities
  • Supporting food safety, quality, and compliance systems across the site
  • Monitoring hygiene, GMP, and production standards on the factory floor
  • Assisting with HACCP documentation, traceability, and technical records
  • Carrying out product sampling, microbiological swabbing, and quality testing
  • Supporting third‑party audits including BRCGS and retailer audits
  • Working closely with production teams to maintain standards and resolve issues
  • Assisting with investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement projects
  • Supporting staff training and promoting a strong food safety culture
What we’re looking for
  • Previous experience within food manufacturing, quality, or technical environments
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced production setting
  • Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and GMP standards
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Confident communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
Desirable
  • Food Safety Level 2 or 3 qualification
  • Knowledge of HACCP, BRCGS, and retailer standards
  • Audit experience or audit support experience
  • Experience with in meat manufacturing or high‑risk food production
