We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated individual for the position of Senior Anaesthetic Practitioner and Senior Vascular Scrub Practitioner in the Main Theatre at Northampton General Hospital, covering six theatres in Main Theatre and four peripheral areas that include a range of speciality theatres such as General Surgery, Urology, Breast, Gynaecology, Vascular, Emergency Theatre, Robotic cases, Max FAS, ENT, Paediatric, Interventional Radiology, etc.
Key Responsibilities- Sound anaesthetic experience across multiple specialities, with management responsibilities and deputising for managers.
- Lead by example in theatre, driving utilisation, offering guidance and support to junior team members.
- Vascular scrub experience: major cases such as EVAR, angioplasty, angiography, wire works, AAA open procedures, scrub for longer cases, wear lead gowns.
- Work in all theatre specialities, including emergency, regardless of anaesthetic or surgical side.
- Management and leadership responsibilities: assist management team in implementing change projects to enhance patient care and positive patient experience.
- Support Theatre managers in all aspects of role, including deputising, appraisals, sickness absence management, mandatory training, audits, staff deployment, coordination of theatre as required, flexible management responsibilities.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, deliver Trust objectives, reflect Trust Vision and Values, contribute to mentoring, development and training of junior staff and students.
- Role model for staff, contribute to training and development, recognise own limitations and seek advice.
- Work day shifts, long days, nights, weekends and on‑call shifts in a full‑time role.
- Supporting Clinical Excellence: ensure high standards of patient care, assist anaesthetic staff or surgeons during procedures, maintain surgical equipment availability, assist in management and organisation of the clinical area, maintain quality care standards, promote patient and staff confidentiality, support safe patient handling, maintain safe ward environment, etc.
- Quality Assurance and Monitoring: assist with audits, develop protocols and guidelines, promote evidence‑based practice, assist management with equipment acquisition and maintenance, facilitate medication safety, assist cleaning schedules, complete patient documentation correctly, maintain safe procurement and stock control.
- Corporate Responsibilities: role model customer service, facilitate achievement of Directorate/Trust targets, maintain open communication, supervise junior staff, participate in safe movement and handling of patients, provide support and reassurance to patients undergoing anaesthesia, escort patients and carers safely, maintain cleanliness standards, facilitate CPD and mentoring.
- Leadership and Management: support departmental culture, assist in change implementation, manage sickness absence, coordinate theatre teams, maintain budget awareness, promote clinical audit, assist in preceptorship and education programmes, support clinical decision making, assist administrative tasks, conduct local inductions, maintain awareness of staffing resources.
