Think FE is recruiting a Security Officer to join a further education college, helping to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.
This is more than a traditional security role. You'll be a visible and approachable presence across the campus, working closely with the Student Welfare team to support students, particularly those living in residential accommodation.
We're looking for someone who is confident handling security incidents but equally comfortable building positive relationships with young people.
What you'll be doing

  • Monitor the college's CCTV network, identifying and responding appropriately to incidents.
  • Carry out regular security patrols across the college campus, including vehicle patrols where required.
  • Maintain a visible, approachable presence during busy periods, including lunchtimes and the start and end of the student day.
  • Work closely with the Student Welfare team to help safeguard students, particularly those living on campus.
  • Respond to security concerns, incidents and emergencies calmly and professionally.
  • Help maintain a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.
  • Record incidents accurately and report any safeguarding or security concerns through the appropriate channels.
26th October, 2026 What we're looking for
  • A valid SIA Licence.
  • A full UK driving licence to undertake site patrols.
  • Previous experience in security, ideally within a public-facing environment.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to engage positively with young people.
  • A calm, professional approach to managing difficult situations.
  • A strong understanding of safety, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • In possession of or ability to obtain a clean DBS check (enhanced) including the child barred list.
Desirable
  • SIA CCTV (Public Space Surveillance) Licence – training can be provided.
  • Previous experience in education, residential accommodation or a similar environment.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and working with young people.
Why consider this role?
  • £28,639 annual salary.
  • Opportunity to work in a college environment where your role makes a genuine difference.
  • CCTV training available for candidates without the additional qualification.
  • A varied role combining security, student welfare and campus patrols.
  • Work alongside a supportive team with a shared focus on student safety.
