Welcome Bonus: £40,000 paid over the first two years.
Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 per year.
Job SummaryProvide a 24‑hour, seven‑day a week assessment and treatment service for residents of Northamptonshire requiring urgent psychiatric assessment and community‑based treatment.
Responsibilities- Undertake mental health assessments following referrals from recognised sources.
- Act as gatekeeper to acute inpatient care.
- Provide rapid, intensive, flexible interventions to service users, families, and carers.
- Address social issues surrounding crisis from the outset.
- Apply an assertive engagement approach.
- Provide practical problem‑solving support.
- Administer and supervise medication.
- Deliver time‑limited interventions adaptable to varying needs.
- Learn from crisis situations.
- Ensure care is linked to further continuing care.
- Offer an assessment service for residents requiring admission.
- Provide intensive community‑based treatment to reduce need for hospital admission.
- Facilitate early discharge where hospital admission is already required.
- Secure appropriate follow‑up care after acute phase alleviation.
- Integrate fully into the county’s mental health system.
Essential
- MRCPsych or equivalent.
- Full GMC Registration.
- On Specialist Register/CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or eligible for inclusion within six months.
- Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act and able to act as Responsible Clinician.
- Minimum six years postgraduate experience (including three years as SpR in an approved training post).
Desirable
- Additional postgraduate qualifications or endorsements in Rehabilitation Psychiatry.
- Publication of original research.
- Management training.
- In good standing with GMC regarding warnings and conditions.
- Commitment to shared leadership and collaborative working.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a MDT.
- Build good relationships with peers.
- Willingness to undertake relevant training and CPD.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Participation in in‑house training.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; evidence of communicating with patients, colleagues, and staff at all levels.
- Ability to present complex information to diverse audiences, including courts and tribunals.
- Ability to motivate and develop junior medical staff and other MDT members.
- Balance individual requirements against the Directorate and Trust objectives.
- Understand the political and financial framework of services.
- Understand use of security in treatment of psychiatric patients.
- Understand dynamics of working with damaged and disturbed patients.
- Awareness of national agenda for secure psychiatric care and criminal justice.
