AI Engineer (Applied/Software)
Promptly is building the first patient-centered global evidence network, offering real world data sharing and monetization capabilities. Together with a selected network of Partners, we generate new knowledge from harmonized datasets, augmented with the collection of longitudinal patient-reported data and patient-generated digital biomarkers within a secure and privacy-preserving environment.
We answer the question – is this patient treatment the best it could possibly be?
What’s our purposeWe exist to empower every patient and every health organization on the planet with evidence on the outcomes of care!
Why do we get up in the morning? Well, most healthcare professionals have chosen to work in healthcare driven by their desire to make a difference in patients’ lives. And so have we! We have chosen to follow this calling by addressing the biggest problem in healthcare: the lack of real-world evidence on the outcomes of care.
For us, society denying patients better care due to lack of access to data is unethical, in a world where technology improved so many aspects of our world. Making the right evidence available to healthcare organizations to help prevent one lost life, one care complication, one failed treatment is the moral obligation that big tech companies have – it’s our Hippocratic Oath.
At Promptly, everything we do is driven by our core purpose: to promote better healthcare at lower costs for patients every day, by making health outcomes available.
About the roleAs a Forward Deployed Engineer at Promptly, you embed directly with clients and co-create alongside them. You have the full latitude to develop new data products, design and test AI-powered solutions, and build workflows that didn't exist before you arrived, within the Promptly platform. Clients don't just use the product; they shape it, with you as the person who makes that happen.
This is a builder role. Not a support role, not a success role, not an advisory role. You are here to build.
Our clients are hospital networks, national health systems, disease registries, research consortia, and life sciences partners. That means the workflows you build sit inside live clinical care - a clinician's afternoon list, a patient's follow-up, a registry's submission deadline. It also means the thing you are actually engineering is participation: whether clinicians and patients find it worth their time to contribute data that right and everything downstream becomes possible.
Get it wrong and no amount of engineering recovers it.
You are technically deep, fast, and curious. You reach for code before slides. You treat a client engagement like a product development cycle. And what you build with one client becomes the foundation for what Promptly ships to the next.
To be clear about what we mean by that: we are not looking for a software engineer who is interested in healthcare. We are looking for someone who knows healthcare from the inside — who has sat in the governance meetings, earned a clinical team's trust, and understood what a board actually needs to see — and who also builds.
What You'll DoReporting to the Head of Forward Deployed Engineering, your time will be spent overwhelmingly on client work rather than internal process. As a rough shape: around 60% building and co-designing directly with clients, including regular time on site; around 20% in the sandbox, prototyping and hardening what you have built into something the next engagement can reuse; and around 20% on engagement scoping, governance, and the standing loop back into product and engineering.
Here is what that looks like in practice:
- You work side by side with clients to scope, design, build, and test new data products on top of the Promptly platform. You own the…
