Near North District School Board Principal Pool

The Near North District School Board (NNDSB) is a public education organization in Northeastern Ontario, serving over 9,600 students—about 6,600 in elementary and nearly 3,000 in secondary schools. With 33 schools, we offer alternative and continuing education programs and celebrate cultural diversity across our student body. Covering more than 17,000 square kilometers, our region includes Nipissing, Parry Sound, and parts of the Muskoka Districts.

The Near North area features scenic parks, lakes, and recreational opportunities.

The NNDSB invites applications for placement in a Principal pool. NNDSB is committed to maintaining a diverse leadership pool of qualified candidates for future Elementary and Secondary Principal positions. Successful candidates will remain in the pool for a period of up to two (2) years upon the date of appointment to the pool. Individuals in a pool may be invited to undertake an Acting Principal or Permanent Principal role if/ as needed to support the system.

Please note that successful appointment to a pool does not guarantee that individuals will be placed in either an acting or a permanent administrative position prior to their two years expiring.

We are most interested in candidates who demonstrate strong skills in leadership and instructional coaching, data analysis and experiences in moving the learning agenda of the board. Candidates should also possess exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills.

Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualification and Registration in good standing
  • Completion of Ontario’s Principal Qualification Program
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience and significant leadership experience in education
  • Additional qualifications and/or leadership experience related to Early Years, Literacy, Mathematics, Special Education, or Curriculum would be considered an asset
Position Criteria

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Successful leadership experience at the school and/or system level
  • Strong understanding of Ontario curriculum, assessment, and evaluation practices
  • Strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive and Indigenous-focused education
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices, data-informed decision-making, and school improvement planning
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Strategic thinker with a demonstrated focus on continuous improvement and student success outcomes
  • A commitment to fostering positive relationships and supporting staff well-being
Additional Requirements
  • Ability and willingness to travel across the district and attend meetings as required
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism

The application package should include a Cover Letter; ; a copy of the applicant's Ontario College of Teachers' Certificate of Qualification; R esume or CV clearly stating educational background, qualifications and leadership experience relative to the experience/skills necessary for an Administrator and the names of three references, including immediate supervisor and Superintendent, with written authorization to contact the references.
