Job Description Mechanical Designer, Mining
Location:
St. Johns, NL;
Brampton, Sudbury;
North Bay, ON
You will work as part of the Mining team at EXP, contributing to the design and layout of mechanical components for mining projects.
Responsibilities- Serve as a working lead for a multidisciplinary design team.
- Produce mechanical layouts and plant designs using Micro Station V8, E3D, AutoCAD, and other 2‑D/3‑D tools.
- Extract drawings from 3‑D models.
- Conduct research and analysis, recommend designs.
- Troubleshoot, analyze, evaluate, propose, implement, and document engineering solutions.
- Understand and consider client requirements and project mission.
- Read, understand, and comment on manufacturer equipment drawings and specifications.
- Check 3‑D models and drawings developed by others.
- Manage budgets, schedules, and deliverables related to the layout.
- Provide mentorship and supervision to the design team.
- Support systems and tools including the Bentley Suite (Open Plant Modeler, Open Plant P&, etc.).
- Provide regular feedback to the Overall Mechanical Engineering Lead on progress with deliverables.
- Engage and coordinate design with client representatives.
- Participate and assist in proposal preparations.
- Become familiar with EXP standards.
- Technical college graduate with experience in mining or a similar industry.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in heavy industrial design and layout, preferably in an EPCM environment.
- Design experience in consulting or Mineral Mining projects preferred.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality.
- Experience with Bentley, Open Plant, or 3‑D Micro Station.
- Knowledge of project delivery, interfaces, and interdependencies across disciplines.
- Organized, self‑motivated, proactive, detail‑oriented, with good communication skills.
- Sound understanding of design, engineering codes, and technical standards.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- AutoCAD and Micro Station experience required.
- Extensive knowledge of engineering standards, codes, guidelines, and systems coordination.
- Knowledge of mining‑related processes is a definite asset.
Salary range: $60,000 – $70,000, based on skill set, experience, certifications, and work location.
