ABOUT

THE ROLE

Trans Alta is hiring an Operating Engineer (Shift Engineer, 2nd Class) to support the safe and efficient operation of our North Bay Generating Facility in Ontario.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, this role is responsible for monitoring and troubleshooting plant systems, supporting maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements while maintaining optimal plant performance. The position operates on a rotational shift schedule.

This is a full-time, safety-sensitive position. Pre-employment testing will be required as a condition of employment.

This is a PWU position covered by the terms of the collective agreement.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
  • Operations and monitoring of all plant systems consistent with requirements of the Technical Standards & Safety Authority and the Safety Act
  • Working closely with shift partners to ensure high standards of communication and plant operating procedures and policies are maintained
  • Working with other staff to ensure the health, safety, and environmental systems are maintained and managed including safe work plans, and the safe isolation of equipment and systems to perform maintenance work
  • Taking an active role in plant training and development, procedural development and review, system development, management, and other project-related activities
  • Maintain mandatory health and safety training updates in a timely manner
  • Performing plant routine water tests on a regular basis and understanding water chemistry and water and waste management operations
