About the job   In this challenging position, you will:
prepare recommendations regarding the planning, design, construction and maintenance of highway facilities
supervise engineering service provider assignments
carry out on-site investigations and prepare reports
analyse and evaluate field and laboratory test data
provide technical information and advice to staff, service providers, stakeholders and special interest groups
evaluate pavement conditions and develop maintenance/rehabilitation strategies

Please note:

fieldwork and occasional overnight travel is a requirement of this position.
Mandatory requirements     The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid G licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Technical Knowledge:
You have demonstrated knowledge of geotechnical engineering materials.
You have knowledge of the principles and practices of soils and pavement evaluation, investigation, testing and design as well as highway construction and maintenance practices.
You are proficient with computers and software such as word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software.
Analytical, Problem-Solving and Decision-Making

Skills:

You have the ability to analyze a problem by identifying critical factors, research, define causes, define possible solutions, and select best solution.
Communication and Interpersonal

Skills:

You are able to promote the effective delivery of multi-disciplinary projects
You have proven ability to work effectively both individually and in teams to negotiate resolve, advise, report and present technical and administrative information
Administrative and Supervisory

Skills:

You have the ability to assist in the administration and supervision of service providers by preparing and administering contracts, assessing deliverables and rating performance, to effectively deliver projects without delay
