As a key member of the Paint Shop team, the
Aircraft Painter Prep Technician
is responsible for preparing aircraft and aircraft components for painting by performing surface preparation, masking, sanding, cleaning, and related paint preparation activities. Reporting directly to the
Paint Shop Supervisor
, the Aircraft Painter Prep Technician plays an essential role in ensuring high-quality paint finishes while supporting Voyageur Aviation Corp.'s commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

• Prepare aircraft surfaces, components, and assemblies for painting through sanding, scuffing, stripping, cleaning, and surface conditioning.
• Remove old coatings, corrosion, contaminants, and surface imperfections using approved methods and materials.
• Mask aircraft structures, windows, openings, and sensitive components to protect against paint overspray and contamination.
• Assist with aircraft disassembly and reassembly activities related to painting operations.
• Ensure surfaces meet paint shop quality and preparation standards prior to coating application.

• Assist Aircraft Painters with preparation, staging, and movement of aircraft and components throughout the paint process.
• Mix and prepare cleaning agents, primers, and other approved materials as directed.
• Support paint application activities as required under the direction of certified painters.
• Maintain paint booths, preparation areas, tools, and equipment in a clean and organized condition.
• Ensure paint shop materials and consumables are properly stored and handled.

• Inspect prepared surfaces to ensure they meet specifications prior to paint application.
• Identify defects, damage, corrosion, or preparation issues and report findings to supervisors.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail throughout all stages of preparation.
• Support quality inspections and corrective actions when required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Paint Shop.

• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture within the Paint Shop.
• Follow all company policies, environmental regulations, and occupational health and safety requirements.
• Properly utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) while handling paint products, solvents, chemicals, and equipment.
• Ensure safe operation of tools, lifts, platforms, and shop equipment.
• Report safety hazards, incidents, and near misses in a timely manner.
• Work closely with Aircraft Painters, Structures Technicians, Aircraft Maintenance Engineers, and Production teams.
• Support aircraft modification, refurbishment, and heavy maintenance programs as required.
• Assist in achieving project schedules, quality targets, and departmental objectives.
