Job SummaryThe Account Executive’s primary goal is to organically generate sales by nurturing existing customer relationships and prospecting for new customers. The role provides world‑class account management, acts as a liaison between the company and a group of customers, and drives sales through acquisition, development, retention and management of strategic clients in designated territories.
Key Responsibilities- Penetrate accounts at functional and executive levels, working with district leaders and industry experts to design solutions for customers’ current and future needs.
- Provide cross‑territory technical and sales expertise when needed.
- Lead MSC collaboration projects and cross‑selling initiatives.
- Model MSC values and demonstrate financial achievement.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure operational efficiencies and exceed customer expectations.
- Achieve sales plan and account retention targets.
- Identify and grow opportunities within the district through collaborations with strategic accounts, national accounts, MSC sales and sales management.
- Communicate initiatives across multiple contacts within a customer.
- Maximize productivity via MSC solutions channels.
- Build and maintain world‑class customer relationships and solve their needs.
- Acquire customers by exceeding their requirements.
- Deliver face‑to‑face sales presentations to strategic prospective clients.
- Stay aware of the competitive landscape and emerging technologies.
- Develop territory‑wide strategy, identifying partnerships and planning development.
- Research and generate new leads with cold calling, canvassing, referrals, and partner relationships.
- Retain customer base by delivering superior experience.
- Maintain accurate sales records and prepare activity reports.
- Implement major company programs and initiatives.
- Assist with prospect/customer surveys and conversions and set‑up of new locations.
- Secure and submit customer orders via wireless ordering technology.
- Develop pricing strategy for non‑contract customers in line with policies.
- Submit reports on time in required formats.
- Foster MSC culture and promote unity of purpose.
- Participate in special projects and additional duties as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Two to four‑year college degree (preferred).
- Minimum of 3+ years of outside direct sales/service experience (preferred).
- Four years of industry experience (preferred).
- Experience in account retention and penetration with verifiable sales successes.
- Proven track record in new account acquisition, retention and penetration.
- Integrity and ability to develop customer relationships.
- Problem‑solving and action‑plan development.
- Technical product knowledge relevant to served markets.
- Ability to read technical material and conduct analysis.
- Excellent verbal, written, listening, presentation and questioning skills.
- Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email) and adaptability to PC‑based order entry.
- Basic math skills and time management.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Ability to drive several hours per day to customer locations within assigned territory.
- Frequent lifting, bending, stretching; ability to move up to 60 lbs.
Starting at $65,000 – $90,000 depending on experience. Salary range is based on comparable roles and wage cost of the city. Actual compensation depends on your experience, education and equity considerations.
