2 Open Positions – Field Supervisor, Fiber Projects
Job DescriptionSupervises, coordinates, and monitors the activities of in‑house and contract fiber technicians for all fiber projects. Negotiates and monitors progress on new build, rebuild, extension, expansion, design, and planning. Sets priorities for the fiber team, assigns tasks, and checks work at regular intervals. Supervises at least two or more employees, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with all federal, state, and company standards.
Responsibilities- Supervises direct and functional reports, coaching and monitoring performance to established goals.
- Inspects the quality of work of in‑house technicians and contractors, ensuring all standards are met.
- Develops and implements methods, practices, policies, and procedures; informs employees of changes.
- Reviews and analyzes service, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity.
- Develops and assigns work schedules.
- Ensures resources (vehicles, equipment, inventory) are maintained in working order.
- Maintains open communication with other departments.
- Analyzes needs and designs for fiber construction projects.
- Performs field walkouts as required.
- Coordinates with engineers and developers in designing the plant; draws and sketches installation and location of equipment and cable; completes bill of materials (BOM) needed for planned construction or fiber span replacements.
- Practices company safety policies and procedures and ensures they are followed.
- Exercises independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
- Maintains regular, consistent, and punctual attendance; works nights and weekends on a variable schedule, including overtime as necessary.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Relevant Work Experience- 2–5 years technical experience in splicing and troubleshooting fiber.
- 2–5 years supervisory experience with a steady work history preferred.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Smartsheet.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks.
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure.
- Ability to manage emergencies and rapidly changing priorities, and to effectively direct the work activities of others under all work conditions.
- Ability to supervise and motivate others.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings.
- Ability to read, edit and understand fiber optic designs and/or schematics.
- Knowledge of the physical construction and design of aerial and underground cable plant, including coax & fiber.
- Basic knowledge of various fiber cable builds (FTTU, MDU/SDU, Nodes, Metro‑E, etc).
- Basic knowledge of the operation of a signal level meter, OTDR, and optical light meters.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
