Job Description

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher of Humanities to deliver excellent education in a supportive, dynamic environment. The successful candidate will plan and teach humanities subjects, inspiring curiosity and critical thinking. This role includes creating engaging lessons aligned with the curriculum and assessing student progress to meet learning objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver humanities lessons in line with the national curriculum and school policies.
Use effective teaching methods tailored to different learning styles and abilities.
Assess and track student progress, providing constructive feedback and maintaining accurate records.
Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages respect, engagement and motivation.
Support students’ development of critical thinking, analytical skills and subject knowledge.
Contribute to the development and review of humanities curricula and teaching materials.
Participate in departmental meetings, professional development and whole-school initiatives to improve outcomes.
Communicate effectively with parents or guardians about student progress and behaviour.
Follow safeguarding policies rigorously and promote student welfare.
Manage classroom behaviour in accordance with the school’s behaviour policy.

Required Qualifications

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised qualification.
A degree in a humanities-related subject such as History, Geography, Religious Studies or Social Sciences.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant humanities discipline.
Commitment to ongoing professional development in teaching and subject knowledge.

Experience

Previous experience teaching humanities at secondary school level is desirable.
Proven ability to plan and deliver lessons that meet curriculum standards.
Experience in assessing and monitoring student progress effectively.

Knowledge and Skills

Strong knowledge of one or more humanities subjects.
Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
Ability to adapt lessons to meet diverse learner needs.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with educational technology and learning resources.
Thorough understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications

Postgraduate qualification in Education or a humanities subject.
Familiarity with exam board requirements and assessment criteria.
Training or certification in special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Working Conditions

Full-time role during term time, with occasional after-school activities or meetings.
Work primarily based in the classroom within a school setting.
Use of standard educational resources and IT is expected.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
