Overview
The Drug Enforcement Administration is seeking a Special Agent to conduct complex investigations against drug trafficking, represent the federal government in court, and support national security and public safety.
Responsibilities- Conduct complex criminal investigations targeting narcotics and drug related activities.
- Prepare comprehensive, succinct criminal investigative reports and deliver briefings to senior personnel and partner agencies.
- Identify and apprehend drug traffickers and arrest individuals engaged in criminal drug activities.
- Gather and analyze evidence through investigative leads, seizures, arrests, execution of search warrants, and other investigative means.
- Testify on behalf of the Federal government in court or before grand juries.
- Assist prosecuting attorneys in case preparation and present evidence in court, legislative, or administrative proceedings.
- Complete 16‑week Basic Agent Training (BAT) at the DEA Training Academy; 3‑week Special Agent Transition Program available to qualifying 1811 applicants.
- Obtain and maintain Top‑Secret security clearance; may require additional clearance.
- Sign mobility agreement and accept relocation to any DEA location.
- Pass pre‑employment medical clearance, annual medical examination, full‑scope polygraph, and random drug testing.
- Register with Selective Service (males born after 12/31/59).
- Serve 1‑year or 2‑year trial period; performance and conduct determine continuation.
- Maintain valid state driver’s license; meet physical exertion and firearm proficiency requirements.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Must be 21‑36 years of age (older if preference‑eligible veteran or eligible federal retired civil law enforcement position).
- Must pass E‑Verify employment verification check.
- Must complete the 16‑week Basic Agent Training; 3‑week Special Agent Transition Program available to qualifying 1811 applicants.
- Must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience at or above the GS‑05 level, or meet equivalent education requirements (graduate degree, superior academic achievement, or combined education‑experience).
- Must obtain and maintain Top‑Secret security clearance; may require additional clearance.
- Must sign a mobility agreement and be willing to relocate nationwide.
- Must pass a full‑scope pre‑employment polygraph; reciprocity available for qualified 1811 applicants.
- Must meet medical, physical, and firearm proficiency requirements.
