Position: Physician Assistant (Part Time) - Emergency Medicine (Community)

Position Summary

The Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant will provide direct patient care to patients in the emergency department at one of our community site locations including Christian Hospital, Northwest Healthcare, Barnes-Jewish St. Peter’s Hospital and Progress West Hospital. Physician support present 24/7 at all sites.

Variable work schedule which includes day, night, and weekend shifts.

Primary

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Performs physical assessments/examinations.
  • Assesses and counsels patients and obtains medical histories.
  • Monitors patient's adherence to protocols.
  • Coordinates screening for research studies.
  • Collects and records data per research requirements and guidelines.
  • Develops and implements adherence plans used with protocols.
  • Bills for professional services as permitted by the collaborative practice agreement.
  • Interprets diagnostic tests results for deviations from normal.
  • Prescribes therapy or medication with physician approval.
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram and laboratory test.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care and infection management.
  • Provides physicians with assistance during surgery or complicated medical procedures.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in service meetings and workshops.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objective, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Salary Range:
  • Emergency Medicine stipend available commensurate with years of experience worked in Emergency Medicine (this is a supplemental payment in addition to the base salary).

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree - Physician Assistant Studies
  • Current PA licensure to practice in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, or ability to obtain within 3 months of date of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minor procedural skills (i.e., suturing, abscess drainage, basic splinting).
  • Emergency Physician Assistant or Certificate of Added Qualification in Emergency Medicine.
  • Three or more years of practicing in an emergency department setting.
