Position Summary
:
Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Research to support the elimination of onchocerciasis and lymphatic filariasis.

The Infectious Diseases Division at WashU Medicine in St. Louis has support from the Gates Foundation to develop new treatments for filarial infections. The DOLF project is seeking a postdoctoral research associate in neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) to perform laboratory research on helminth parasites, to assist in clinical trials for river blindness treatment, and to manage large data sets.

The successful applicant will have experience in data science and in infectious diseases and/or microbiology/parasitology. Knowledge in clinical trials, histology, and worm morphology and/or the epidemiology of NTDs would be helpful. The research associate will work together with scientists from different disciplines and countries and is expected to advise technicians and students.

The candidate should have good oral communication skills and a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals in a field relevant to the project. The position is based in person in St. Louis, but travel to clinical trial sites in Africa will be necessary.

Primary

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
  • Prepares and submits papers on research.
  • Assists in the design of research experiments.
  • Evaluates research findings and assists in the reporting of the results.
  • Conscientious discharge of their research responsibilities.
  • Maintains conformity with ethical standards in research.
  • Maintains compliance with good laboratory practice including the maintenance of adequate research records.
  • Engages in open and timely discussion with their mentor regarding possession or distribution of material, reagents, or records belonging to their laboratory and any proposed disclosure of findings or techniques privately or in publications.
  • Collegial conduct towards co-trainees, staff members and members of the research group.
  • Adherence to all applicable University policies, procedures and regulations.

Working Conditions:

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Salary Range:

Base pay is commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications

Education: Ph.D., M.D. Or Equivalent Terminal Or Doctoral Degree.
