Requirements and Qualifications:
- Capable of performing preventative and major maintenance on diesel engines, governors, air and electronic control systems, reduction gears, AC generators, electrical switchboards, electrical equipment, air compressors, hydraulic steering systems, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, sewage treatment, and plumbing systems.
- Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) is preferred.
- This position reports directly to the Port Engineer and is responsible to the towboat master for job duties.
- Leadership skills and effective verbal and written communication are critical.
- Follow all U.S. Coast Guard regulations and requirements for safety and vessel compliance.
- Assist the Captain with fire emergency procedures and drills.
- Maintain vessel cleanliness and engine room condition. Participate in dry-dockings and major repairs/overhauls.
- Physical demands include heavy lifting, reaching, standing, and bending.
- Follow vessel transfer procedures.
- Maintain all engine, mechanical, and fuel logs.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs as needed.
Additional requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and successful completion of pre-employment aptitude and physical fitness tests. The listed requirements and responsibilities are not all-inclusive.
