PermanentA Project Architect is required to join a specialist architectural and property consultancy based in Holmes Chapel. The practice delivers bespoke residential projects across the UK, creating high-quality homes and adaptations tailored around the individual requirements of private clients. Working within a close-knit team of approximately 16 people, the successful candidate will gain significantly more project ownership than is typically available within a larger architectural practice.
This is a particularly varied role where you will have the opportunity to manage residential projects from initial client contact and survey through planning, Building Regulations and construction to completion. You will work directly with private clients, contractors and other professional stakeholders, taking genuine responsibility for project delivery while receiving support from an experienced Head of Department.
- Salary £40,000 - £45,000 depending on experience.
- 21 days holiday plus bank holidays.

- Manage bespoke residential projects from initial client engagement through to completion.
- Undertake site surveys and develop initial design proposals.
- Prepare and submit planning applications.
- Produce detailed technical drawings and Building Regulations packages.
- Liaise directly with private clients throughout the design and construction process.
- Coordinate consultants, contractors and other professional stakeholders.
- Prepare specifications, schedules of work and tender documentation.
- Assist with contractor selection, tender reviews and appointments.
- Undertake regular site visits and monitor construction works.
- Provide Contract Administration and project management throughout the construction phase.
- Assist with valuations and certification where required.
- Manage project quality, programme and client expectations through to completion.
- Travel to projects across the UK, typically undertaking 1-2 site visits or surveys per week.
Job Requirements
- Strong background within residential architecture, ideally within a small or medium-sized practice or consultancy.
- Planning and Building Regulations experience is essential.
- Proven experience taking residential projects beyond the technical stages and through construction.
- Experience dealing directly with private residential clients.
- Strong understanding of residential construction and technical detailing.
- Comfortable liaising directly with contractors and resolving issues on site.
- Contract Administration experience would be highly advantageous.
- Experience with valuations or wider project management duties would be beneficial but isn't essential.
- Excellent communication skills with a personable and consultative approach.
- Adaptable and comfortable dealing with clients and professional stakeholders at different levels.
- Willing to travel to projects throughout the UK.
