Dental Nurse Apprentice role involves assisting with patient care and preparing instruments. Completing the apprenticeship offers practical experience and immediate job opportunities in dental practice, with prospects for career progression.

Wage
: £13,520 for first year, may increase with experience.

Hours
:
Monday‑Thursday 7:45 am–4:15 pm, Friday 8:00 am–12:00 pm (32 hrs 30 min weekly).

Duration
: 1 year 6 months.

What you’ll do at work
  • Take responsibility for decontamination and maintenance of instruments.
  • Ensure all relevant materials and supplies are available.
  • Record patient notes during examinations.
  • Assist the dentist during procedures and help keep the surgery ready for use.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and infection control.
  • Coordinate with reception to facilitate patient communications and record transfer.
  • Attend and participate in practice meetings.
  • Support the practice’s operation and attend refresher training on medical emergencies and CPR.
  • Adhere to practice rules, code of conduct, and reception duties including answering phones and booking appointments.
  • Process payments and issue receipts.

Training

Apprenticeship includes specialist training and study, delivered by Cheshire College – South & West.

  • Study relevant dental, oral, craniofacial, and general anatomy.
  • Learn about infection control and decontamination procedures.
  • Develop skills in dental charting, radiographic processing, and material handling.
  • Understand patient safety, emergency management, and health promotion.
  • Gain knowledge of dental records management and professional communication.
  • Receive ongoing training in clinical best practice and health‑promotion techniques.
Requirements

GCSE in Maths and English at grades A*‑C (9‑4) or equivalent. Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience – the apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
