Main duties of the jobThe postholder will provide comprehensive primary care services to the practice population, managing a diverse range of clinical presentations across all age groups.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing routine and urgent GP consultations (face-to-face, telephone, and digital where appropriate)
- Assessing, diagnosing, and managing acute and chronic medical conditions
- Prescribing safely in accordance with local and national guidelines
- Delivering preventative care and health promotion
- Maintaining accurate, contemporaneous clinical records
- Participating in practice clinical meetings and quality improvement activities
- Working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to deliver integrated care
- Supporting teaching and training where appropriate
- Contributing to the development of practice services
- Participating in clinical governance and maintaining professional standards
Firdale Medical Centre is a member of Northwich Primary Care Network. We currently care for over 11,000 patients and also mentor and support one of the local nursing homes.
The practice is led by three GP partners and supported byfive salaried doctors. Our wider clinical team includes two practice nurses, ahealthcare assistant, a pharmacist, a pharmacy technician, and two Musculo-Skeletal (MSK) specialists. We are a teaching practice and actively support both foundation and specialty doctors.

Job responsibilitiesJob Purpose
To provide high-quality, evidence-based general medical services to registered patients, contributing to the effective functioning and development of the practice.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive primary care consultations
- Manage acute presentations and long-term conditions
- Undertake clinical examinations and make appropriate referrals
- Prescribe medications and treatments safely
- Provide health promotion and disease prevention advice
- Maintain accurate patient records in line with professional standards
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain GMC registration and licence to practise
- Remain on the NHS England Performers List
- Engage in continuing professional development and appraisal
- Participate in clinical governance and audit
- Work in accordance with practice policies and NHS regulations
Team & Service Development
- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team
- Support teaching, supervision, and mentoring where appropriate
- Contribute to quality improvement and service development
- Promote a culture of safety, learning, and continuous improvement
- Completion of GP specialty training
- Ability to deliver safe, effective, patient-centred care in a primary care setting
- Demonstrates sound clinical judgement and decision-making
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to clinical governance, quality improvement, and professional development
- Experience working in UK general practice
- Interest in teaching, mentoring, or service development
- Experience working with diverse patient populations
- Fully qualified General Practitioner with a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent
- Full registration with a licence to practise from the General Medical Council
- Included on, or eligible for inclusion on, the NHS England Performers List
- Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Commitment to maintaining revalidation requirements
- Additional clinical qualifications or special interest area
