Role: College Counsellor

Salary: Band 5 (SP 15 - SP 19) £32,199 - £36,564 (FTE Salary) / £27,616 - £31,360 (Actual Salary) - Based on 37 hours per week, Term Time only

Contract type: Permanent, Term Time only, Full time (37 hours) or Part Time considered

Reporting to: Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead

Start date: September 2026

About the Role

Reporting to the Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead you will work as part of our Achievement & Support department to promote the emotional wellbeing of students. The hours available are full time but part-time can be considered.

Working pattern (for full time, 37 hours per week) is:

  • Monday to Thursday 8.30am - 4.30pm
  • Friday 8.30am - 4pm.
Your Responsibilities

Promote the emotional wellbeing of students.

What we are looking for

Applicants do not necessarily need to have experience of working in education but should be passionate about the sector. You will join a team of experienced counselling professionals who provide a dedicated counselling service to students. The counselling team work closely with all our pastoral support departments and the safeguarding team.

The successful candidate must have a recognised qualification in counselling and experience of working with children and young people. They must have a warm and compassionate approach with the ability to quickly build rapport with students.

This role follows a college academic calendar and requires onsite attendance from the start of the academic year on GCSE Results Day (third Thursday in August), ending in mid‑July.
