Job Summary / Course Assignments

The Wheaton College Department of Creative Arts, which houses the Theatre Program, seeks one or two qualified individuals to teach one section of one or both of the following courses in the Spring ’26 semester:

  • THEA 276:
    World Theatre Global Perspectives
    — Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30-10:50, Spring 2026. An overview of various non-Western performance traditions and methodological approaches. The course investigates a wide variety of performances, carnivals and religious rites from Melanesia and Asia (Papua New Guinea, India, Sri Lanka, Japan, China, Korea, Tibet, Java and Bali), the Caribbean, and Africa. Live performance and film complement assigned readings of scripts, theoretical writings and anthropological studies.
  • THEA 102:
    Public Speaking
    — Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00-6:20 pm, Spring 2026. Public Speaking will help students achieve greater confidence and expertise as communicators while further developing their unique voice and style. We will examine all aspects of the communication process: how to compose effective, interesting speeches, establish meaningful connections with audiences of any size and utilize the critical art of persuasive speaking.

    Students will engage in debates, mock interviews, conflict resolution exercises, and deliver various presentations, ranging from informal to formal. By the end of this course, students will be able to speak with increased ease and deliver engaging, informative presentations to various audiences.
Minimum Qualifications

A Masters level degree and teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

A PhD or ABD in Theatre/ Theatre history or similar if applying to teach the World Theatre course.

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity.

All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources. The per course salary for this position is $5,000.
