Cerritos College is ranked 14th among the top 100 schools with the highest Hispanic enrollment in the United States by the U.S. Department of Education. It serves a comprehensive community college for southeastern Los Angeles County, with campuses in Artesia, Bellflower, Cerritos, Downey, Hawaiian Gardens, La Mirada, Norwalk and surrounding areas. The college offers degrees and certificates in more than 180 areas of study across nine divisions with an enrollment of approximately 20,000 students.

Department

Profile

The library serves a diverse student population of over 20,000 in more than 60 disciplines. Resources include 132,000 volumes, 100 periodical subscriptions, over 50 electronic databases, an Ex Libris Primo discovery system, and Lib Guides. Librarians collaborate with departments to meet student and faculty needs. The staff includes four full‑time librarians and six classified staff, and an active pool of part‑time librarians.

Part‑time librarians prepare bibliographies and research guides, provide reference service, instruction both in‑person and online, and may assist with collection development, displays and other library projects as needed. They may also teach a section of the credit course “Introduction to Library Research.”

Job Duties
  • Maintain currency with current information, concepts, laws, and ideas in their disciplines and with best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Check mailbox, voicemail, and e‑mail regularly.
  • Complete the checkout form before leaving campus at the end of the academic term.
  • Maintain student confidentiality as required by regulation and Board Policy 5040 (Student Records and Directory Information).
  • Teach all assigned classes unless excused under board provisions.
  • Teach all assigned classes for all scheduled minutes, and notify the Instructional Dean or designee of any necessary absence.
  • Teach courses in accordance with the course outlines of record.
  • Provide opportunities for students to be aware of their progress.
  • Submit syllabi, enrollment, attendance, grades, textbook information, and required reports by the published deadlines.
  • Meet all classes during the final examination period and give final examinations on schedule.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment in classrooms, laboratories, and other instructional spaces.
  • Allow instructional managers to review assignments upon request.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s in library science, library and information science, or the equivalent.
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic background of the student, community, and employee population.
