Department Profile

The Cerritos College Education department delivers a high-quality Liberal Studies program designed to help students prepare for entering the field of K-12 teaching. The program prepares students to explore teaching, transfer to a university and pursue the Liberal Studies Baccalaureate degree. With thoughtful planning, education students will be able to complete the Associate in Arts Degree while concurrently satisfying the lower division transfer preparation for the Baccalaureate degree.

Additionally, they will be well positioned to complete the requirements for the state‑approved Multiple Subjects Credential Program and/or the Education Special Credential Program.

Job Duties
  • Maintain currency with current information, concepts, laws and ideas in disciplines and best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Check mailbox, voicemail, and e‑mail regularly.
  • Complete the checkout form before leaving campus at the end of the academic term.
  • Maintain student confidentiality as required by regulation and Board Policy 5040.
  • Teach all assigned classes unless excused under provisions of Board Policy.
  • Teach all scheduled minutes; notify Instructional Dean or designee in case of absence.
  • Teach courses in accordance with course outlines.
  • Provide opportunities for students to monitor progress.
  • Submit syllabus, enrollment, attendance, grades, and textbook order information by published deadlines.
  • Keep accurate records of student progress.
  • Meet textbook accessibility and availability standards.
  • Maintain a safe learning environment.
Minimum Qualifications

MA in Education AND currently hold or have held a California K‑12 teaching credential AND within the last 2 years, experience teaching at the K‑12 level and/or community college teaching experience in credit sections within an Education Department OR the equivalent. Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience teaching in a K‑12 Special Education classroom. Experience using Canvas.

Supplemental Information – Physical Demands

Requires ambulatory ability to move to various office and classroom locations and to stand, bend, stoop, and reach. Requires hand‑eye coordination, dexterity, visual acuity, and sufficient auditory ability to project voice.

Conditions of Employment

Assignments are contingent upon sufficient funding and enrollment. May include day, evening, and/or weekend classes.
