Base pay range$51.20/yr – $70.40/yr
Job DescriptionThe Emergency Department Registered Nurse is specially trained to provide prompt response and treatment for patients presenting with life‑threatening, emergent, or urgent medical needs. The RN monitors patients and utilizes therapeutic equipment to deliver specialized nursing care to acute or complex patients, while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized plans of care. Professional duties include assessing, planning, intervening, and advocating for patients and families throughout the continuum of care, routinely re‑evaluating patient response, adjusting care plans, and making referrals as needed.
The RN serves as a role model and mentor to new graduate nurses, orientees, and support staff.
- Provide patient care, review and administer medications (including intravenous titrations), manage invasive and arterial lines, cardiac monitoring, ventilator management, treatments, and procedures in a safe, effective and age‑appropriate manner consistent with scope of practice.
- Recognize changes in patients’ clinical conditions, document interventions, and respond appropriately to RRT/Code Blues/Code Whites.
- Collaborate with the health care team, advocate for patients, and intervene when abuse, assault, neglect, or inadequate resources are suspected.
- Develop short‑ and long‑term goals, incorporate patient preferences, and document ongoing assessments and care outcomes.
- Review critical laboratory values, communicate results timely, and collaborate to update the plan of care.
- Ensure compliance with infection control procedures, HIPAA, and evidence‑based nursing standards.
- Supervise, monitor, and delegate patient care tasks to appropriate members of the team, providing leadership and ensuring quality care.
- Communicate compassionately with patients, families, and colleagues, respecting age, culture, religion, gender identity, or ethnic background.
Required Qualifications
- Active, current, and unencumbered Licensure as a Registered Nurse in California.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Basic Life Support certification (AHA).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (AHA).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (AHA).
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Willingness to work variable shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Communication and flexibility in a rapidly changing environment.
- Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only).
- One year of previous emergency nursing experience or completion of emergency department training (including EMTALA and ESI 5 level triage within first six months).
- De‑escalation certification upon hire; ongoing SAMA certification required upon recertification.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Bilingual skills for patient and family communication.
- SAMA certification upon hire.
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN).
Minimum - $51.20 | Maximum - $70.40
Sign‑On Bonus$25,000 Sign‑On Bonus available for full‑time RN positions, rewarding employees with at least one year of acute care RN hospital experience. Bonuses are paid in increments over 24 months to active employees in good standing. Current Alta Hospital employees are not eligible, and former Alta Hospital employees may not be eligible.
