The Superintendent is responsible for the onsite production of the project. They must ensure the project is executed at the highest level and delivered on or ahead of schedule. The Superintendent is the primary safety officer and must be present on site and available to all workers, AHJ officials, the project team, and clients.
CoreDuties & Responsibilities
- Safety: The Superintendent is responsible for the safety of all workers and stakeholders. They lead by example, always follow safety best practices and wear full PPE. They conduct weekly toolbox talks, maintain site housekeeping, ensure safety personnel conduct inspections, and enforce the “See something, say something” rule.
- Communication & Relationships: Maintain consistent communication and prioritize relationship building with all stakeholders. Communicate issues and scheduling to subcontractors, schedule weekly meetings, and notify the Project Manager of any sub‑of‑a‑sub on site. Build strong relationships with city/police/fire officials and facilitate AHJ visits.
- Supervision & Coordination: Oversee the overall supervision and progress of the work, coordinate trades and vendors, manage equipment and materials, keep financial discipline, and maintain dimensional controls. Supervise workmanship to ensure compliance with drawings and specs.
- Documentation: Update the project schedule daily, maintain records for site personnel, interpret plans, review shop drawings, and ensure no deviations without proper authorization. Prepare and submit required reports and logs, and maintain COI and safety documentation.
- Daily Responsibility Checklist: Ensure all workers sign in and wear name badges, perform SWPPP walk‑throughs and dumpster inspections, update inventory and material checklist, fill out extra work tickets, send RFIs to the Project Manager, take digital photos, and submit end‑of‑day progress.
- Make sure all workers sign in and take their NAME BADGES.
- Perform SWPPP walk‑through and DUMPSTER inspection.
- Review the SHIFT TRANSFER RESPONSIBILITIES SHEET to understand the work requirements for upcoming shift.
- Receive deliveries and update MATERIAL INVENTORY CHECKLIST.
- Fill out EXTRA WORK TICKETS.
- Email RFI’s to Project Manager.
- Immediately update all field drawings when revisions are released.
- Take DIGITAL PHOTOS of each work area.
- Submit end of day progress EMAIL TO PROJECT MANAGER.
- Confirm all site safety cameras are online and working.
