Pulmonary Function Tech - Per Diem Opportunity

Rate: $38.00

Summary

The Pulmonary Function Technician is responsible for all tests performed, QA, CQI, training, equipment maintenance, proficiency testing, policies and procedures development. Assists the pulmonary medicine department with emergency equipment inventory, ordering, cleaning and restocking supplies and performing ABG draws.

Responsibilities
  • Responds promptly to patient stats, produces accurate reports, expedites interpretation, and communicates results. Provides technical support across other medical sections such as cardiology and GI.
  • Draws and analyzes arterial blood gases, ensuring timely and accurate results.
  • Follows up on assignments, reports unusual occurrences, and provides adequate coverage.
  • Maintains equipment in good working order, keeps the environment clean and safe, and ensures adequate supplies while maintaining fiscal accountability.
  • Ensures staff are properly trained, documents competency, and teaches students the basics of PFT testing.
  • Provides backup for the Point‑of‑Care Testing Coordinator for arterial blood gases, lactate, and co‑oximetry testing; reviews lab procedures and results to ensure quality testing; maintains proficiency testing for JCAHO, CAP, and state requirements.
  • Evaluates new procedures and equipment, implements and modifies policies in an innovative, cost‑effective manner.
  • Enters charges for the Pulmonary Lab, Pulmonary Rehab, and Bronchoscopy services through Eclipsys.
  • Assists the Department of Pulmonary Medicine: makes rounds daily, records emergency kit numbers, checks kit dates, replaces supplies, checks contents of designated emergency tanks, conducts monthly environmental rounds, provides reports of deficiencies, inputs repair requisitions, and presents monthly ABG critical‑value audit results.
Qualifications

Required:

Registered Cardiopulmonary Technologist (RPFT). Credentials: BLS.
