Summary

Provide assistance to Perinatologist in gathering data, operate diagnostic ultrasound equipment, and obtain diagnostic quality images on the female pelvic organs, uterus and fetus. Maintains all necessary supplies and equipment for the Antenatal Diagnostic Testing Unit.

Responsibilities
  • Perinatal Ultrasounds
    • Maintain full working knowledge of ultrasound techniques and anatomy in obstetrical & gynecological patients.
    • Perform initial evaluation of fetal anatomy, biometric measurements and fetal activity.
  • Assist Perinatologist with scanning of patient
    • Explain procedure to patient and significant other.
    • Assist Perinatologist with scanning of patient (Demonstrate normal anatomy and relay findings to doctor).
    • Discuss results of exam with patient.
    • Interpret findings and present to doctor.
  • Assist Perinatologist with amniocentesis
    • Explain procedure to the patient, ensure that appropriate forms are filled out.
    • Set up equipment needed for the procedure.
    • Assist needle insertion with ultrasound guidance.
    • Explain post amnio restrictions to patient.
  • Evaluate and maintain equipment and materials needed for procedures
    • Maintain inventory of supplies, linens and instrument trays needed to efficiently provide ultrasounds, amniocentesis and gyn examinations.
  • Continuing Education
    • Attend continuing education programs and participate in professional organizations.
    • Maintain and update educational records.
    • Maintain teaching tapes for ultrasound cases.
    • Assist in orientation and training of radiology residents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Education

    HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT

    Other Information
    • Required:

      Graduate of an accredited ultrasound program. Two to three years experience in performing ultrasound preferred, with at least one year experience in OB ultrasound preferred.
    • Minimum Experience:

      two years
    • American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS) registration within 1 year required.

      Some manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity

      Some occupational risk
    • Physical Effort:
      Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force
    • Physical Environment:
      Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
