SummaryAccurately fixes, embeds, cuts and stains tissue for Pathologist interpretation and diagnosis. Provides quality technical and customer service to all customers.
Responsibilities- Provides quality technical and customer service to all customers in compliance with the expectations set by the organization.
- Performs computer accessioning and proper specimen labeling, ensuring specimen integrity.
- Assists Pathology Residents and Pathologists as needed in Frozen Section & Gross Room as needed.
- Performs routine Histology procedures necessary to prepare slides for examination by Pathologists, including but not limited to embedding, cutting, mounting, and staining.
- Performs special stains in accordance to quality standards.
- Initiates work procedures and performs all quality control, instrument maintenance & documentation required by accrediting agencies.
- Communicates effectively and appropriately with coworkers, pathology residents & pathologists to assure the quality & integrity of the service.
- Maintain a safe environment for one's self and coworkers to comply with all regulatory agencies & with hospital's & Laboratory's Safety Programs.
- Assists in maintaining section's inventory to ensure proper levels of reagents, controls and disposables.
- Participates in Laboratory Performance Improvement Program.
- Teaches and trains new employees, students and Pathology Residents.
- Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
Associate's Level DGRE
Required:
Associate Degree
Minimum Experience:
one year
Desired:
Histotechnologist certification preferred or eligible.
Manual: significant manual skills/motor coordination & finger dexterity
Occupational:
Some occupational risk
Physical Effort:
Medium to Heavy effort. May exert up to 35 lbs. force
Physical Environment:
Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
