Overview

Provides quality care and meets customer expectations by utilizing advanced technical skills covering multiple modalities (CT, MRI, IR, XR). The audience is a Multiple Modality Technologist covering MRI, CT, and IR as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Follow ALARA principles and scan with appropriate exposure and minimal repeats; document repeat/rejected images properly.
  • Wear personal radiation badges to track exposure; utilize bismuth or lead shielding per established protocols; monitor CTDI Volume to ensure appropriate dose.
  • Complete screening before entry into Zone 3 of the MRI Department; clear safety issues by following departmental policies and obtaining applicable documentation.
  • Use hearing protection and safety cushions; communicate with the patient throughout the exam; monitor SAR Levels and keep within guidelines; instruct patients on safety (e.g., not interlacing fingers or crossing legs).
  • Identify patients by name and DOB; review prescriptions for accuracy; explain procedures; answer questions; complete screening/history forms; obtain required bloodwork for GFR clearance and diabetic medication clearance when applicable.
  • Advise patients on exam preparation (deodorant, lotion removal; dietary restrictions; jewelry removal; appropriate attire).
  • Perform venipuncture for contrast administration using aseptic technique; operate power injectors per manufacturer guidelines; select appropriate injection protocol; dispense oral contrast; monitor injection, recognize infiltrations, and communicate with the patient.
  • Review prescriptions and protocols for appropriateness; proficiently position routine and technically challenging views; select correct protocols; cover appropriate anatomy and scan parameters.
  • Respect appointment times; communicate delays to reception staff or patients; review charge entry and notify administrative staff of changes; start and complete examinations in the ADS workflow; record information on log sheets; in Mammo, check in breast ultrasound with complete notes to the Sonographer.
  • Evaluate image quality, repeat scans as needed, and provide concise patient history to Radiologist; perform post-processing and transfer images to PACS; ensure prior exams and reports are available for comparison; annotate contrast administered/amount and verify images in PACS.
  • Select correct patient; update clinical history; enter notes relating to the present exam; resolve prior examinations; indicate when shielding was utilized.
  • Respond promptly in the event of a quench to evacuate patients and staff; undock MRI table quickly; recognize psychological or physical patient needs and seek further assistance as needed; locate and use emergency equipment; document incident information.
  • Follow universal precautions (gloves, gowns, masks); clean and disinfect between patients; perform high-level disinfection as required; dispose of sharps properly; maintain a clean work area and waiting room.
  • Maintain quality control standards; perform QC tests per ACR requirements; reboot/shutdown systems per manufacturer guidelines; participate in Time Out procedures; initiate equipment service requests and notify supervision as needed.
  • Function as a Technologist in other modalities (X-Ray, Stereotactic Biopsy, Bone Density) upon supervisor request and skill level; stock work area with supplies; assist ancillary personnel as needed.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Minimum of 3 years of CT or MRI experience preferred.
  • ARRT Certification in Radiology required; ARRT advanced certification is required or pending in the advanced imaging modality covered (MRI or CT).
  • CT State Radiology License required.
  • CPR preferred.
  • Maintains continuing education requirements (24 CE credits per biennium).
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology; professional demeanor; positive attitude; respect and courtesy towards patients.
