Bilingual Recovery Support Specialist‑SAFE Family Recovery

Position SummaryThe Recovery Support Specialist (RSS) is either a person in direct sustained recovery or who has been directly impacted by addiction. Using a motivational approach, the RSS will assist clients with linking to the appropriate recovery service based on identified need, and provide ongoing support using an evidence‑based model. Services may be delivered in community, office settings, and regional DCF offices.
Compensation- Bilingual in Spanish and English required! Bilingual stipend $2,288 yearly
- Sign on bonus $4,000 (half upon start, half after a year)
- Rate $21 per hour
- Cost‑of‑living stipend $4,160
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related human services field (preferred)
- Experience working in the substance use recovery field and/or lived recovery experience (required)
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule in order to accommodate individual parent/caregiver needs and respond to crisis situations
- Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a vehicle (required)

- Provide education on addiction recovery and facilitate linkages to services.
- Provide toxicology screens and SBIRT immediately upon referral during the agreed hours at each DCF Area Office.
- Utilize the GAIN Short Screener (GAIN‑SS) to screen for mental health, substance use disorder, and crime/violence.
- Provide RMC for clients up to six months after discharge from substance use treatment, including frequent check‑ins in person, by phone, and by text.
- Proactively connect clients to local recovery resources and supports, and seek to identify concerns or relapse early to re‑engage clients in treatment services.
- Assist clients in following their child safety plans.
- Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of recovery.
- Assist in professional training, outreach, and public education services as assigned, including conferences, workshops, and training for behavioral health agencies.
- Document clinical activities in client records as required by Wheeler Clinic.
- Identify and support linkages to community resources such as recovery communities, vocational, social, cultural, and spiritual resources.
- Assist recovering persons in identifying personal interests, goals, strengths, and weaknesses related to recovery.
- Coordinate the provision of services by other community professionals.
- Refer to licensed substance use provider based on screening results and parent/caregiver agreement.
- Provide reports on SBIRT findings to the parent/caregiver and DCF.
- Refer parents/caregivers who test positive and contest results to a licensed substance use provider for full evaluation.
- Continue to develop knowledge of cultural traditions, values, and artistic expression of served groups, applying appropriate methodologies.
