General
Summary:
Duties include answering telephone calls, locating items, servicing customers, using a computer to generate invoices, loading items into customers’ vehicles, and delivering products to customer locations.
- Provide fast and friendly customer service by following "Customer First" standards, in person or over the telephone.
- Display a positive attitude by greeting customers as they enter the branch.
- Ensure commitments made to customers meet or exceed expectations. Enter customer orders in the system on the same day the order is received.
- Pull customer orders from the warehouse and load into the company delivery truck, customer vehicle, or stage pickup using safe material-handling procedures.
- Produce and complete paperwork accurately, including invoices, C.O.D.s, special orders, vendor purchase orders, and shipping and receiving paperwork.
- Ensure all product leaving the branch is billed. Collect payment via cash or credit card and follow all money‑handling procedures.
- Process all customer returns and warranties on the same day they are received.
- Maintain the self‑service area by restocking, rotating displays and end caps, and tidying the area.
- Create and maintain branch displays that support corporate programs and the branch’s strengths and markets.
- Use available resources to locate products for customers and provide updates on delivery and backordered items.
- Immediately report damage, safety issues, and accidents to the supervisor.
- Use sales tactics to promote special items or sales. Keep up to date with new product information and educate customers, making recommendations as needed.
- Perform warehouse duties whenever necessary, including clearing debris, pallets, cartons, sweeping, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash, tidying shelves, and loading/unloading by hand or equipment.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by keeping the workstation neat and orderly.
- Professionally represent R.E. Michel Company by wearing the approved uniform and abiding by grooming standards at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Exemplify excellent verbal communication skills with the general public and/or customers.
- Maintain a positive attitude and interpersonal skills necessary to service customers on the telephone, at the branch, or at delivery sites.
- Proficient operating a computer and using Prophet 21.
- Basic math skills and an understanding of markup, gross margin, and their impact on sales, expenses, and the bottom line.
- Ability to read invoices, catalogs, stock numbers, and descriptions to accurately identify items.
- Basic understanding of heating and cooling systems, parts, and supplies is required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age to operate a forklift.
Fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions. Requires frequent bending, climbing, movement, and lifting during physical loading/unloading of trucks and stocking products. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat.
Typical schedule:
Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays (half day). This is a safety‑sensitive position.
Successful completion of pre‑employment screenings is required.
