Production Machine Operator-2nd Shift (12-Hour Shifts 6PM-6AM)

Location DescriptionMichael Foods, Inc. is located in Norwalk, Iowa, a southern suburb in the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area. The facility produces high‑quality precooked egg patties and various French toast products.
ResponsibilitiesResponsible for operating production equipment ensuring the highest quality product is produced and maintaining safe, sanitary working conditions.
- Set up and clean all equipment—including oven depositors, pumps, contherms, box machines, and packaging machines—prior to start time to ensure on‑time start‑ups.
- Perform quality checks on products, record results on Red Zone, and adjust system settings to meet customer and company specifications.
- Monitor spiral freezer operations, checking for ice buildup on belts and coils, and take corrective action to maximize product quality and production run length.
- Perform necessary sanitation duties to restore the system within the scheduled timeframe.
- Troubleshoot equipment that is not running effectively.
- Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMPs, maintain sanitary conditions, and report any conditions that may adversely affect food safety, quality, or personnel safety to management.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure food safety and food quality of MFI products.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- One to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Intermediate level of computer/technological skills.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple correspondence; present information clearly in one‑to‑one and small group settings.
- Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, rates, ratios, and percentages.
- Ability to apply common sense to follow oral instructions and resolve simple problems involving one variable in standardized situations.
Work involves frequent cognitive tasks (problem solving, decision making, communication, and data interpretation). Physical demands include standing, walking, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 100 lbs), operating forklifts and pallet jacks, and prolonged exposure to indoor, high‑temperature and low‑temperature environments.
Working ConditionsIndoor environment with high temperatures, cold temperatures, loud noises, fumes, dust, and exposure to a VDT screen (iPad). Requires appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and the use of PPE such as gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection where applicable.
Equipment Use and FrequencyFrequent operation of forklifts, pallet jacks, trash compactor, and iPad; requires consistent use of machinery during the shift.
Physical RequirementsThe job requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, squatting, crawling, climbing heights, reaching above shoulder level, crouching, kneeling, repetitive hand movements, and pushing/pulling. Lifting up to 100 lbs, with varying effort frequencies throughout the shift.
