- Perform accurate and appropriate testing of received specimens according to established laboratory protocol.
- Evaluate specimens for acceptability and document any unacceptable specimens.
- Organize workload for maximum efficiency.
- Accurately perform tests, ensuring correct patient encounter and procedure.
- Verify accuracy of results before reporting.
- Conduct proficiency testing in compliance with policies.
- Report test results timely and in accordance with laboratory protocol.
- Document special handling for outlying results.
- Maintain laboratory quality control; report discrepancies to the Medical Technologist II or Supervisor.
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly maintenance and calibration of instruments and equipment.
- Maintain calibration records; monitor supplies and communicate needs.
- Troubleshoot instruments, reagents, and specimens, following chain of command if unresolved.
- Comply with universal precautions and safety procedures; wear appropriate PPE.
- Use proper hand hygiene and protective equipment; dispose of hazardous waste.
- Perform phlebotomy (venipunctures, finger sticks, heel sticks) as required, following protocol for specimen labeling.
- Attend all safety training, complete competency requirements, and maintain safe operation of equipment.
- Demonstrate respect and courtesy toward patients, families, visitors, and coworkers, maintaining confidentiality.
- Participate in quality assurance projects and lean process improvement initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with team during shift change and daily huddles.
- Maintain a clean work area and adequate supplies.
- Assist in orientation and training of new laboratory personnel.
• Minimum of an associate degree in Medical Technology or a related field; BS preferred.
• Current state certification or eligibility within 90 days of hire.
• At least 1 year of laboratory experience preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team during 2nd‑shift hours.
