Position Summary

Pharmacist – Backus Hospital (10309) within Hartford Health Care Pharmacy System. Shift: primary first shift with rotating evening and overnight shifts as needed, every 3rd weekend, generally 2 holidays annually.

• Supervise pharmacy technicians and associates ensuring safe and accurate preparation and dispensing of drugs.
• Optimize drug therapy for the general patient population by designing appropriate, correct, and cost‑effective therapy.
• Provide direct patient care for pain management through evaluation, recommendations, and follow‑ups.
• Maintain safety of drug therapy using screening mechanisms and input from healthcare providers, patients, and families.
• Provide useful drug information as a liaison between the Health Care Team and the pharmacy.
• Investigate and resolve drug and/or pharmacy‑related problems through investigative studies and problem‑solving techniques.
• Document interventions, outcomes, and other statistics manually or electronically to support quality improvement.
• Demonstrate competencies and behaviors to meet age‑specific patient needs.
• May serve as charge pharmacist on a periodic basis.

Education:
Pharm.

D. required.

• Current Connecticut pharmacist license or eligible within 45 days of hire.
• PGY‑1 pharmacy residency preferred.
• Prior experience with EPIC systems preferred.

Location:

Backus Hospital, New London, CT – the primary healthcare provider for Eastern Connecticut, featuring a trauma center and helicopter services.
