The Executive Director performs a wide range of duties ranging from overall management of the organization to physical activities in the field. The Director must be dependable, organized, personable, and self-motivated. The Director must possess a well-rounded background in the field of natural resource conservation, and be skilled in small business management. The Director must also be able to perform the physical duties required by natural resource conservation field projects.
Specific Duties of the Executive Director:- Work under the direction of the ECCD Board of Directors, providing timely and professional responses to Board of Directors requests and instructions. Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings and report on the activities of the District. Assist the Board of Directors in the execution of its duties.
- Execute duties in accordance with ECCD’s Executive Director Level of Authority document.
- Responsible for general management of ECCD, including staff management and oversight, and day-to-day operations of the District and the District staff.
- Responsible for the overall management of ECCD’s finances, ensuring the current and future financial health of the District. In coordination with ECCD’s accountant, monitor the District’s finances, and provide the Board of Directors with monthly status reports.
- Responsible for all projects undertaken by the District, from inception through completion. Responsible for the completion of the work set forth in ECCD’s Annual Plan of Operations.
- Set priorities and timelines for District activities to be approved by the Board of Directors. Manage the activities and perform work necessary to meet the time goals set.
- Maintain strong working relationships with NRCS, Connecticut DEEP, EPA, TLGV, and other organizations and agencies that interact with ECCD, through cooperation and collaboration.
- Provide services to the Cities and Towns within the District, with emphasis on technical assistance for Commissions, Selectmen and Town staffs. Act as ECCD’s primary representative to the Towns.
- Provide natural resource related technical assistance to agricultural producers, land owners and citizens of the District.
- Collaborate with ECCD staff to produce the Annual Plan of Operations, annual budget and other reports.
- Attend and actively participate in a wide variety of meetings, and also coordinate staff attendance, establishing and maintaining productive relationships with various groups and individuals.
- Speak before groups when acting as an instructor at a workshop, or as the District’s representative.
- Complete annual performance reviews of the staff and provide salary recommendations to the Board of Directors.
- Seek out available grants appropriate for ECCD; complete and submit applications. Upon award, fulfill all obligations of the grant in a professional and timely manner. Coordinate staff participation in the grant process.
- Seek and obtain funding from new sources.
- Be available to work evenings and weekends as reasonably required by the position.
- Responsible for oversight of the land owned by the District in coordination with the Board of Directors.
- Conduct other duties as assigned by the board of directors.
