Since 1893, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high‑quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.

Performs skilled plumbing work in the construction, maintenance and repair of the hospital’s plumbing, sprinkling, hot water, and dialysis systems and their related components using various hand and power tools. Work is guided by blueprints, specifications, schematics, written or oral instructions and applicable codes in compliance with Joint Commission and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code and all other applicable NFPA standards.

The employee is subject to the usual hazards of plumbing work and is expected to apply appropriate safety precautions. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager and is evaluated by observation, inspections and the operational efficiency of systems and equipment.

Experience: 2 years plumbing experience

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Valid CT Plumbing license

• Working knowledge of hazards and accident prevention
• Compliance with OSHA standards for hot work
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics and plumbing diagrams
