Summary of the Interim FM Project Lead role:
Our client is seeking an experienced Interim FM Project Lead to take responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of a diverse portfolio of facilities, infrastructure and capital projects within a complex, live operational environment. The role will manage multiple projects through the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and design through procurement, construction and commissioning to completion and operational handover.
Projects will range from minor works of approximately £100k through to major capital projects of up to £10m, requiring strong control of programme, cost, scope, quality and risk. The successful candidate will coordinate multidisciplinary teams, contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders, ensuring projects are delivered safely, effectively and with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
This is a senior, hands-on interim project delivery role requiring an individual who can quickly establish themselves within the existing environment, take ownership of multiple work streams and maintain momentum across project delivery. The role has a strong focus on procurement and contract management, commissioning, operational readiness and effective handover into Facilities Management operations, alongside strategic asset planning, business case development, sustainability and robust project governance.
Interim FM Project Lead
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the end-to-end delivery of multiple facilities, infrastructure and capital projects from feasibility and design through procurement, construction, commissioning, completion and operational handover.
Manage project programmes, milestones and critical paths, providing clear reporting on progress, performance, risks and dependencies.
Establish and maintain robust project controls covering programme, cost, scope, quality and change, taking corrective action where required.
Manage project budgets and financial performance, including forecasting, expenditure, cost reporting and value-for-money considerations.
Develop appropriate procurement strategies and manage tendering, evaluation, contractor selection, contract award and contract administration.
Ensure projects comply with applicable health, safety, environmental and regulatory requirements, including CDM Regulations, statutory approvals, testing and certification.
Manage project risks, issues and dependencies, coordinating interfaces between concurrent projects and operational activities to minimise disruption within a live environment.
Lead commissioning, testing, acceptance and operational-readiness activities, ensuring appropriate O&M documentation, as-built information, asset data, warranties, training and operational sign-off are completed.
Ensure asset information and planned maintenance requirements are appropriately established ahead of operational handover, managing defects and post-completion activities through to closure.
Support strategic asset management planning, business cases and options appraisals, considering safety, compliance, operational resilience, sustainability, lifecycle value and benefits realisation.
Embed whole-life cost, energy, carbon, maintainability and sustainability considerations into project design and delivery.
Skills, Experience &
Qualifications:
Essential:
Proven project management experience delivering construction, facilities and/or infrastructure projects through the full project lifecycle within live operational or regulated environments, such as research, healthcare, pharmaceutical, higher education or similarly complex settings.
Demonstrable experience managing multiple concurrent projects, including the delivery of at least one major capital project through to completion, commissioning and operational handover.
Degree in engineering, building services, construction, project management or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
Recognised Project Management qualification such as PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM PMQ or equivalent.
Health & Safety qualification such as IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH Certificate.
Strong knowledge and practical experience of project delivery, procurement, contract management, commissioning, handover and asset management processes.
