Curriculum Lead: 16–18 EMSOL (English & Maths for Speakers of Other Languages)

We are now seeking a skilled, reflective, and people‑focused ESOL professional to join us as Curriculum Lead for 16–18 EMSOL. Aboutthe Role
This role combines leadership (0.4) with teaching (0.6). You will lead on the development and quality of the ESOL curriculum for 16–18 learners, while also delivering high‑quality teaching.
You will be working with a committed and experienced team, supporting them to build on strong practice and further develop a calm, collaborative, and high‑performing culture. The role requires a thoughtful and emotionally intelligent leader who can inspire trust, navigate differing perspectives, and bring people together around shared goals.
Alongside this, you will teach a diverse cohort of learners, helping to improve attendance, engagement, retention, and achievement through inclusive and responsive practice.
Key Responsibilities Leadership (0.4)- Curriculum Development:
Contribute to the design, implementation, and review of a responsive ESOL curriculum that meets the needs of diverse 16–18 learners. - Team Leadership:
Support, coach, and develop a team of ESOL teachers, promoting collaboration, consistency, and professional growth. - Quality Improvement:
Monitor and enhance the quality of provision, using data, observation, and feedback to drive continuous improvement. - Culture & Communication:
Build positive, professional relationships within the team, supporting effective communication and a cohesive working culture. - Partnership Working:
Work with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen provision and support learner progression.
- High‑Quality Teaching:
Deliver engaging, inclusive ESOL teaching to 16–18 learners using adaptive and innovative strategies. - Learner Support:
Create a safe and supportive environment that enables learners to engage, attend, and succeed. - Assessment & Progress:
Track learner progress, provide clear feedback, and implement strategies to improve outcomes. - Inspiring Engagement:
Motivate learners to develop confidence, resilience, and independence in their learning.
We are looking for someone who brings both strong professional expertise and outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Qualifications:
A recognised teaching qualification and a degree or relevant subject expertise. - Experience:
Significant ESOL teaching experience with evidence of strong learner outcomes. - People Leadership:
The ability to lead with empathy, professionalism, and clarity; confident in supporting, challenging, and developing colleagues. - Emotional Intelligence:
Highly effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, manage sensitive situations, and work constructively with a range of personalities. - Resilience & Adaptability:
Calm under pressure, solution‑focused, and able to respond positively to challenge or change.

Please note:
From 28 November 2020 the government implemented changes to the filtering rules, and we have been instructed that we cannot accept any update service checks on DBS certificates that have been issued before this date. Therefore, a new one must be completed with City College Norwich.
