We are seeking a Clinical Associate Professor in Medical Education to increase the academic and clinical leadership in the areas of Professional Behaviour and Fitness to Practice. The successful candidate will have a strong background in relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, and the ability to apply this knowledge to student fitness to practice, professional behaviours, and academic governance processes within a medical education context.

Experience working within policing, border agencies, or similar regulatory or enforcement environments would be advantageous, particularly where this includes expertise in risk assessment and case management.

Teaching is a key activity and includes giving lectures, seminars and individual supervision of dissertation students.

As part of this role, you will be expected to contribute to teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, particularly in Professional Behaviour and Fitness to Practice, delivering case‑based and applied teaching that supports professional identity formation and decision‑making in complex clinical scenarios.

You will support teaching within modules where Professional Behaviour and Fitness to Practice, patient safety and clinical judgement are core components. You will also contribute to assessment activities, including written assessments and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs), particularly where these relate to Professional Behaviour and Fitness to Practice, and provide targeted supervision and support to students where concerns have been identified.

This part‑time (0.4 FTE) post is available from 1 August 2026 on an indefinite basis.

Requirements
  • Registered medical practitioner and hold a licence to practice with the General Medical Council
  • Hold a Primary Medical Qualification
  • Hold a postgraduate qualification in medical education and/or be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (or equivalent membership)
  • Have a Law degree (or equivalent level qualification)
  • Have experience of healthcare within the NHS
