An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Engineer to join a main contractor delivering major highways and infrastructure projects under National Highways contracts and frameworks. As a Senior Engineer, you will take full responsibility for setting out, engineering control, temporary works coordination, and quality assurance while mentoring and coordinating the site engineering team and liaising with National Highways client representatives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee setting out, engineering control, temporary works and quality compliance on National Highways schemes.
* Ensure works meet National Highways standards and contractual requirements (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges / Specification for Highway Works and relevant framework KPIs).
* Support the Site Agent and Project Manager in planning, resource management and delivery to programme.
* Supervise, mentor and coordinate site engineers, subcontractors and specialist survey teams.
* Prepare and implement RAMS, ITPs, temporary works submissions and site quality checks.
* Manage traffic management interfaces and ensure safe working adjacent to live carriageways.
* Maintain accurate records, as-built surveys, topographical data and QA documentation.
* Assist the commercial team with early warnings (EWs), compensation events (CEs) and site-level client communications.
Requirements:
* Proven experience as a Senior Engineer on highways or major civil infrastructure projects, ideally delivering work on National Highways frameworks/contracts.
* Strong setting-out and surveying skills using levels, EDM and GPS/RTK systems.
* Good knowledge of highway standards and specifications (DMRB / Specification for Highway Works) and experience working to framework KPIs.
* NVQ Level 3 or higher in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
* SMSTS & valid CSCS card (or equivalent).
* Practical understanding of temporary works, traffic management and safe systems of work near live carriageways.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD, Office 365 and common survey software/tools.
