Overview

We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our client's dynamic operations team at our state‑of‑the‑art manufacturing facility in Hethel, Norwich. The role is a 6‑month fixed‑term contract.

Responsibilities
  • Creation of production processes and update of assignments to align with manufacturing build requirements.
  • Study of operations sequence, material flow, fixturing/tooling and process documents to improve line balancing, throughput and working procedures.
  • Draft and design layout of equipment, materials and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency.
  • Development and maintenance of Process Sheets from engineering released data.
  • Production and project support as required.
  • Publish clear and concise information covering all aspects of Man/Method/Machine (tooling)/Material requirements.
  • Coordinate with the training department to ensure suitable on‑the‑job training for new processes.
  • Perform and support time studies for all product, process and component changes to meet required quality, cost and delivery elements.
  • Conduct periodic process audits to confirm products are built to release manufacturing engineering information.
  • Support investigation, resolution and tracking of concerns and problems in a continuous‑improvement system.
  • Support implementation, control and closure of deviations from standard production processes.
  • Support design, development and specification of new tooling and fixtures for manufacturing introduction.
  • Support tooling, equipment and facilities specification, procurement, installation and commissioning.
  • Test new tooling and fixtures and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain tooling and jig registers.
  • Support the build of cars during EP, VP, Pilot and SOP phases.
  • Establish daily status of new project introductions from VP stage onwards against the 4M requirements (Man‑Machine‑Method‑Material).
  • Adopt a positive coaching and facilitation approach to support manufacturing supervision in achieving the launch plan and objectives.
  • Assist in estimating production cost and effects of product design changes for management review.
  • Provide technical input and documentation for virtual build events and define equipment, tooling and jig requirements for production operatives to ensure RFT build.
Qualifications Essential
  • HNC, HND or Degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
  • Previous manufacturing, production and engineering knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ongoing skills learning and achievement in manufacturing.
  • Experience working in a production environment.
  • Self‑motivated and driven to succeed.
  • Positive “can‑do” attitude, eye for detail and methodical approach.
  • Experience of DFMEA and PFMEA processes and related outcome documentation within the Manufacturing Control framework.
  • Good understanding of problem solving, poka‑yoke and capability modelling.
Desirable
  • Higher qualifications than degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
  • Lean thinking or Six Sigma training.
  • Very good working knowledge of niche vehicle and OEM automotive industries.
  • Out‑going, proactive team player.
  • Knowledge of TAKT time, capacity modelling and line‑balancing activities.
  • Knowledge of PLC system design, layout optimisation, traceability systems and tooling assessment.
