Mechanical Engineer

Our client, a leading independent Oil & Gas operator, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their Maintenance team in the Southern North Sea. The role is Monday to Friday, based in the Norwich office, initially on a 12‑month contract with potential periodic travel to other company assets.

• Engineering degree-qualified or HNC/HND with at least 8–10 years of experience in the oil and gas offshore industry or other highly regulated industries.
• Detailed operational knowledge of oil and gas industry mechanical equipment and a sound knowledge of engineering, maintenance, and planning.
• Ability to give timely guidance to management on equipment health to predict, plan, and budget major costs and outages.
• Diligent, hard‑working, team player able to solicit help and co‑operation from colleagues, impartial and supportive of change.
• Understanding of specifying equipment for use in hazardous areas.
• Understanding of Management of Change processes and their importance within an organisation.

• Provide mechanical engineering support to Operations, Maintenance, Projects, Metering, and Integrity departments.
• Adequate guidance and support during operational shutdowns and outages.
• Help eliminate mechanically‑related production losses by measuring equipment performance, identifying improvement opportunities, planning, risk assessing, and implementing cost‑beneficial initiatives; undertake root cause failure analysis and coordinate maintenance programmes across trades.
• Deliver the company maintenance strategy and policies, prescribing equipment‑specific routines and procedures.
• Monitor maintenance requirements and effectiveness, minimizing mechanical maintenance backlogs and interventions through regular review processes.
• Specify, cost‑analyse and procure replacement equipment, ensuring compliance with company specifications and legislative requirements.
• Complete required documentation and assurance systems including work planning, change management applications, equipment and documentation databases, and report publication.
• Manage costs by controlling vendor spend and fostering a cost‑challenge culture.
• Utilise an electronic maintenance system such as Maximo.
• Carry out site assurance surveys at onshore and offshore sites.
• Provide technical training and guidance to technicians and new recruits.

Fundamental knowledge requirements for Mechanical Engineers supporting the performance testing, assurance, maintenance, and failure analysis of actuated and non‑actuated valves.
