Position: Responsible Authority Officer

Southwark, London (Hybrid Working) Client:
Greater London Authority Job Type: Temporary, full-time (Initial 3-month contract) This is an exciting opportunity to support the delivery of the Mayor’s strategic licensing priorities. You’ll play a key role in afast-paced, high-profile programme to design and implement new licensing powers. Working across London boroughs and with a wide range of stakeholders, you’ll help ensure licensing supports the capital’s economic growth, cultural vibrancy and night-time economy.

Day-to-day of the role:
You will manage a varied caseload of licensing work, including complex and high-risk cases, supporting consistent delivery of the Responsible Authority function across boroughs.

Key responsibilities include:

Managing and prioritising a caseload of licensing applications and reviews Leading on complex and high-risk cases Gathering and analysing evidence to inform decisions Drafting licensing representations, conditions, and reports Maintaining accurate and auditable case records Building strong relationships with borough officers and stakeholders Representing the GLA at meetings and, where appropriate, hearings Supporting service prioritisation and mentoring colleagues where needed Required Skills &

Qualifications:

We’re looking for a motivated and analytical professional with experience in licensing or regulatory services. You’ll bring:
Experience working within a licensing, regulatory, enforcement, or public protection environment (ideally in local government or similar) Knowledge of the Licensing Act 2003 and licensing processes Experience handling licence applications and/or regulatory casework Strong written skills, including drafting reports and formal correspondence The ability to analyse information and make sound, evidence-based decisions Confidence working with stakeholders and representing an organisation externally A relevant qualification in licensing or regulatory services (e.g. Institute of Licensing or CIEH) is desirable If this role is of interest and you have the required skills and experience, please click apply.
